Description

The Galfer Pro brake pad FD427G1554T fits the 2-piston brakes of Avid Elixir, SRAM DB and SRAM Level as well as the two-piece flat-mount calipers of SRAM AXS on road bikes. The green Pro compound G1554T is Galfer's racing compound: highest braking power, very stable under heat, and according to Galfer, ready for use without bedding in.

Compatibility

According to Galfer, the pad shape FD427 fits these brakes:

  • Avid: Elixir 1, 3, 5 and 7, XX and X0
  • SRAM MTB: XX, X0, X7, X9, DB1, DB3, DB5 and DB9, Level, Level T and Level TL as well as Level TLM and Level Ultimate from model year 2020
  • SRAM Road: Red AXS, Force AXS and Rival AXS with two-piece flat-mount caliper, Apex with two-piece caliper, All Road and HRD from model year 2020
  • Trickstuff: C21, C22, Cleg 2 and Piccola
  • Others: Braking Incas, Lewis LV2

Before purchasing, check the model and model year of your brake caliper or compare your old pad with the picture and dimensions on this page. For SRAM Level, Galfer also lists shape FD513, which is slightly lower (Galfer E-Bike for SRAM Level, T, TL, TLM and Ultimate). When in doubt, compare with your old pad. For the Red AXS monoblock caliper and SRAM HRD up to 2019, the shape FD469 fits (Galfer E-Bike for SRAM HRD up to 2019).

Galfer Pro G1554T: the racing compound

Galfer gives the Pro compound top marks for braking power and fading resistance, and a good rating for wet and dirty conditions. Galfer rates the durability lower than that of the other compounds: Pro wears out faster and is intended for racing, bike parks, and long, steep descents.

  • Organic-semi-metallic, asbestos-free friction compound
  • Ready for use without bedding-in time according to Galfer
  • Progressive modulation and high temperature resistance
  • Green backing plate
  • Dimensions according to Galfer: 29.8 × 33.4 mm

Which Galfer compound is the right one?

We stock the FD427 pad shape in three Galfer compounds. We have found the Galfer Pro to be effective for the front and the Galfer E-Bike for the rear.

You can find more on the differences in our brake pad buying guide.

What's in the box

1 pair of pads for one caliper. For front and rear, order 2.

Disc due as well?

New pads only brake properly on a disc in good condition. Measure the disc when you change the pads: if it is below the minimum thickness, warped or deeply scored, it's best to replace it together with the pads. Matching Galfer discs:

Compare all discs: Galfer brake discs. With 2.0 mm discs, check that your caliper has room for them.

Installation and replacement

  • Always replace all pads of a brake caliper at the same time.
  • Push the pistons straight back before inserting, preferably with a plastic lever – never use a screwdriver directly on the piston.
  • Keep the disc and pads free of grease; Galfer Brake Cleaner is suitable for cleaning.
  • SRAM specifies 3 mm for the pad and backing plate combined as the wear limit.

Frequently asked questions

Does the pad fit my SRAM Level?

For Level, Level T and Level TL as well as TLM and Ultimate from 2020, Galfer specifies this shape FD427, but also the shape FD513 for the same brakes. The two differ in height: 33.4 mm for FD427, 30.8 mm for FD513. Measure your old pad or send us a photo.

Does the pad fit SRAM AXS on a road bike?

Yes, for the two-piece flat-mount calipers of Red, Force and Rival AXS. The Red AXS monoblock caliper requires the shape FD469.

Do I have to bed in Galfer Pro?

According to Galfer, the Pro compound is ready for use without any bedding-in time. Nevertheless, perform a few stops on a flat, safe section before your first descent so that you are familiar with the braking feel.

How long does a Galfer Pro pad last?

This depends on the route, weather, and riding style. Pro wears out faster than the other Galfer compounds. If mileage is more important to you, choose Galfer Road in the same shape.

We ship Galfer brake pads from our Swiss warehouse. Unsure if the pad fits? Send us a photo of the brake caliper – we will tell you which pad fits.
