Description

The Galfer Wave Fixed Center Lock 2.0 mm brake disc is the thicker Wave disc for Center Lock hubs. According to Galfer, it is designed for e-MTBs that require greater durability and heat dissipation – it is also a good choice for heavier riders and long descents. Available in 160, 180, 200, 203, and 223 mm.

Features

  • One-piece, laser-cut from high-carbon stainless steel
  • Wave-shaped edge (Wave design) and anti-corrosion finish
  • According to Galfer, powerful, progressive braking performance, quiet and low-vibration – in both wet and dry conditions
  • 2.0 mm thickness: more mass, absorbs more heat
  • Center Lock mount, according to Galfer not compatible with Fulcrum AFS hubs
  • Made in Spain

Which size do I need?

Galfer recommends the following sizes:

  • 160 mm: XC
  • 180 mm: Enduro and E-bike
  • 200 mm: Enduro, Downhill and E-bike
  • 203 mm: E-bike
  • 223 mm: Downhill and E-bike

Whether and which adapter is required depends on the brake mount on your fork or frame and the disc size it is designed for without an adapter. Galfer offers post-mount adapters of +20 mm, +23 mm, +43 mm, and +63 mm. The maximum disc size is determined by the fork and frame manufacturer.

Riding a Fox 40 and want to go from 203 to 223 mm at the front? You need the Galfer post-mount adapter +20 mm for Fox 40.

Center Lock, 6-bolt or 1.8 mm?

Before switching to 2.0 mm, check whether your brake caliper is compatible. For 6-bolt hubs, the same disc is available as Galfer Wave Fixed 6-bolt, 2.0 mm. For lighter bikes, the Center Lock disc is available in 1.8 mm: Galfer Wave Fixed Center Lock, 1.8 mm.

Speed sensor magnet for e-bikes

According to Galfer, the 203 mm disc is prepared for the integrated MG003 speed sensor magnet. You can find this, along with bolt-on magnets, under Galfer E-Bike Magnet.

What's in the box

1 brake disc, without lockring. Reuse the lockring from your current disc. For front and rear, order 2 discs.

Matching pads

A new disc is best paired with new pads so both bed in cleanly together. Pads for your brake: Shimano · SRAM & Avid · Magura · Hope & Trickstuff · Formula · Hayes · TRP

Installation

  • Center Lock discs are attached to the hub with a lockring. The lockring is not included – you should generally continue to use the ring from your previous disc. Tighten it with the appropriate tool and to the torque specified by your hub or brake manufacturer.
  • Keep the disc and pads free of grease; Galfer Brake Cleaner is suitable for cleaning.
  • Bedding in new discs: on a flat, safe section of path, brake several times from moderate speed to walking pace, using each brake individually.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the disc compatible with my brake?

Generally, yes. The crucial factors are the correct hub mount and the right adapter for the diameter. Before switching, check whether your brake caliper is compatible with 2.0 mm thick discs.

200 or 203 mm – what is the difference?

Three millimetres in diameter. SRAM uses 200 mm, while Shimano, Magura, and Hope use 203 mm. The adapter must match the disc: If your mount is designed for 180 mm, you need a +20 mm adapter for a 200 mm disc, and a +23 mm adapter for a 203 mm disc.

When do I need to replace the disc?

When it falls below the minimum thickness specified by the disc or brake manufacturer, is warped, or has deep grooves. Measure the thickness with a micrometer at several points in the middle of the braking surface.

Do I need new pads with a new disc?

It is recommended, especially if the old pads are heavily worn or glazed. New discs and new pads bed in best together. You can find suitable pads in the brake pad buying guide.
