Galfer Bremsbeläge und Bremsscheiben

Galfer brake pads & brake discs for MTB, gravel, road bike and e-bike

At our shop, Galfer isn't just a shelf-filler – we ride their pads and rotors ourselves and have tested various compounds and combinations on the trail. For high braking performance at a reasonable price-performance ratio, we have found the Galfer Pro in the front and the Galfer E-Bike in the rear to be the best setup.

Here you can find Galfer brake pads and brake rotors for MTB, e-bike, gravel, and road bikes – compatible with Shimano, SRAM/Avid, Magura, Hayes, Hope, and Trickstuff, as well as 6-bolt and Center Lock systems. Still unsure about Performance, Advanced, Pro, E-Bike, or Road? We explain the differences and share our personal recommendations below.

Galfer – Braking know-how from over 60 years of racing

Galfer is a manufacturer of brake pads and discs used in automobile, motorcycle, and bicycle racing. Galfer can look back on experience gained from over 60 years of racing in various disciplines.

The Spanish company, based in Barcelona, manufactures exclusively in Europe and places great importance on the consistent top quality of the products produced.

Galfer brake pads: Which compound is right for you?

Especially in cycling, Galfer Bike has set itself the goal of offering only the best. This is evident in the brake pad product range: Galfer distinguishes between five compounds, which you can identify by the colour of the backing plate. Each compound covers a specific area of application. All Galfer pads consist of an organic-semi-metallic, asbestos-free friction compound, provide quiet braking, and are gentle on the brake disc.

Performance (black)

The all-rounder for gravel, XC, trail, and enduro: high braking power and fading resistance with excellent durability – even in dirt and mud. This compound was previously called Standard.

Advanced (red)

The all-purpose talent for changing and wet conditions: direct response, progressive braking, and particularly strong in mud and wet conditions, plus very long durability. For trail, enduro, DH, and XC.

Pro (green)

The racing compound: maximum braking power and fading resistance, ready to use immediately without bedding-in time according to Galfer. However, it wears out faster – ideal for racing, bike parks, and long, steep descents.

E-Bike (purple)

Developed for the higher speeds and weights of e-bikes: high braking power, extreme heat resistance, and long durability, tested to ECE R90. Also a strong choice for heavy riders and non-motorized gravity bikes.

Road (blue)

Specially developed for road bikes and gravel: high braking power in all weather conditions, fine modulation, low vibration, and long durability – a reliable companion on long tours.

Which pads for which application?

  • Trail & Enduro:our proven combination – front Pro for maximum bite, rear E-Bike for stability and durability.
  • E-MTB:E-Bike pads front and rear, ideally with 2.0 mm discs (Shark, Shark EVO, or Wave E-Bike).
  • Wet & Mud:Advanced – the compound with the most reserves in difficult conditions.
  • Racing & Bike Park:Pro – full braking power from the first run.
  • Gravel, XC & All-round:Performance – balanced and durable.
  • Road Bike & Gravel:Road – developed for roads and fast gravel paths.

Galfer brake discs: Wave, Shark, and Shark EVO

Galfer brake discs are laser-cut in Spain from high-quality, high-carbon stainless steel. Many models are also available in 2.0 mm thickness instead of 1.8 mm – more material means more heat absorption and stability, ideal for e-bikes and hard descents.

Wave® Fixed

The classic with a wavy outer profile: powerful, progressive braking, good self-cleaning of the pads, and constant performance in wet and dry conditions. One-piece, 1.8 mm (e-bike version 2.0 mm), 6-bolt or Center Lock – for XC to Enduro as well as Road & Gravel.

Shark®

One-piece, with wave profile and internal "Shark Fins": according to Galfer, up to 30% lower operating temperature, constant braking power on long descents, and 25–40% longer pad life. 2.0 mm (160 mm: 1.8 mm), 6-bolt or Center Lock, with mount for the e-bike speed sensor.

Shark EVO

The two-piece top disc: new Shark friction ring with a larger contact surface, more cooling fins and cutouts to prevent fading, and a CNC-machined 7075-T6 aluminium core with 8 mm rivets. 2.0 mm, 6-bolt or Center Lock, in Kashima, black, or raw – and e-bike compatible.

Accessories: adapters, bolts, and maintenance

To ensure the new disc fits perfectly, we also carry Galfer brake caliper adapters for Post Mount (+20, +23, +43, and +63 mm), Flat Mount (front and rear) as well as FOX 40/49, Center Lock adapters, stainless steel bolts for discs and brake calipers, the e-bike magnet, and the Galfer Brake Cleaner for cleaning discs and pads.

Frequently asked questions about Galfer

Which Galfer pad fits my brake?

The pad shape depends on the brake caliper. In the shop, you will find all pads categorised by brake manufacturer and model; the "Fits for" filter also helps. Always check the model, year of manufacture, and pad shape of your brake caliper before purchasing – in case of doubt, we are happy to help.

Do Galfer pads need to be bedded in?

According to Galfer, the Pro compound is ready for use without bedding-in time. For other compounds, it is worth bedding in new pads with a few controlled braking maneuvers from medium speed – this way, you reach full braking performance faster.

Can I combine Galfer pads with any brake disc?

Yes, Galfer pads work on all common brake discs, and Galfer discs work with all common pads. However, Galfer pads on Galfer discs are best matched to each other.

1.8 mm or 2.0 mm – which disc thickness do I need?

2.0 mm discs absorb more heat and are more stable – ideal for e-bikes, enduro, and downhill. Check beforehand whether your brake caliper offers enough space for the thicker disc. We are happy to advise you.

Do I need an adapter for a larger disc?

Usually, yes. When switching to a larger diameter, you need a suitable brake caliper adapter, for example, +20 mm from 180 to 200 mm or +23 mm from 180 to 203 mm. You can find the matching Galfer adapters in our range.
