Galfer E-Bike brake pads for SRAM Level, T, TL, TLM and Ultimate from 2020

The Galfer E-Bike Brake Pad FD513G1652 fits the 2-piston SRAM Level, Level T, and Level TL brakes, as well as the Level TLM and Level Ultimate from model year 2020 onwards. The purple G1652 E-bike compound is semi-metallic and ECE R90 certified. It is designed for the weight and speed of E-MTBs, is highly heat-resistant and durable, and is also suitable for heavy riders and non-motorised gravity bikes.

Compatibility

According to Galfer, the pad shape FD513 fits the following brakes:

• SRAM: Level, Level T, and Level TL (all model years) as well as Level TLM and Level Ultimate from model year 2020 onwards

Before purchasing, please verify your brake caliper's model and year or compare your old pad with the image and dimensions on this page. For model year 2019, Galfer lists different shapes depending on the source. For the same Level brakes, Galfer also lists the FD427 shape, which is slightly taller (Galfer Pro for SRAM Level, DB and Avid Elixir). When in doubt, compare it with your old pad.

Galfer E-Bike G1652: for E-MTBs and heavy bikes

Galfer gives the E-bike compound the top rating for performance in wet and muddy conditions as well as for durability. ECE R90 is a testing standard for replacement brake pads for motor vehicles.

Disc due as well?

New pads only brake properly on a disc in good condition. Measure the disc when you change the pads: if it is below the minimum thickness, warped or deeply scored, it's best to replace it together with the pads. Matching Galfer discs:

• Shark: 6-bolt · Center Lock, one-piece, for enduro, downhill and e-MTB
• Shark EVO: 6-bolt · Center Lock, two-piece with aluminium carrier for even better cooling
• Wave Fixed 2.0 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, for e-MTBs, enduro and heavier riders
• Wave Fixed 1.8 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, the classic Wave in 1.8 mm, 160 to 203 mm

Compare all discs: Galfer brake discs. With 2.0 mm discs, check that your caliper has room for them.

Installation and replacement

• Always replace all pads in a brake caliper at the same time.
• Push the pistons straight back before inserting the new pads, ideally using a plastic lever – never use a screwdriver directly on the piston.
• Keep the disc and pads free of grease; Galfer Brake Cleaner is suitable for cleaning.
• SRAM specifies 3 mm for the total thickness of the pad and backing plate as the wear limit.

Frequently asked questions

Which shape do I need for my SRAM Level: FD513 or FD427?

Galfer lists both shapes for the Level. They differ in height: 30.8 mm for the FD513, 33.4 mm for the FD427. Measure your old pad or send us a photo, and we will tell you which one fits.

Does this pad fit SRAM AXS on a road bike?

No. For the two-piece AXS calipers from Red, Force, and Rival, Galfer specifies the FD427 shape; for the Red AXS monoblock caliper, the FD469 shape.

How do I bed in new pads?

On a flat, safe stretch: brake several times from medium speed down to walking pace, using each brake separately.

Can I use E-bike pads on a bike without a motor?

Yes. The compound is designed for high loads and is also suitable for heavy riders and non-motorised gravity bikes. We have found the Galfer E-bike compound to be excellent for rear brakes.
