Description
Description
The Galfer Shark Center Lock brake disc is Galfer's one-piece Shark disc for Center Lock hubs, designed for enduro, downhill, and e-MTBs. Internal "Shark Fins" and a wavy edge dissipate heat – according to Galfer, this results in up to 30% lower operating temperatures. Available in 160, 180, 203, and 223 mm.
Features
- One-piece, laser-cut from stainless steel
- Wavy edge, internal "Shark Fins," and small holes in the braking surface
- According to Galfer, up to 30% lower operating temperature, 5 to 10% more braking power, and 25 to 40% longer pad life
- Thickness: 1.8 mm for 160 mm; 2.0 mm for 180, 203, and 223 mm
- Center Lock mount
- Made in Spain
Which size do I need?
Galfer recommends the following sizing:
- 160 mm: XC and enduro (1.8 mm)
- 180 mm: Enduro and e-bike
- 203 mm: Enduro, downhill, and e-bike
- 223 mm: Downhill and e-bike
Whether an adapter is needed and which one depends on the brake mount on your fork or frame and the disc size it was designed for without an adapter. Galfer offers post-mount adapters for +20 mm, +23 mm, +43 mm, and +63 mm. The maximum disc size is determined by the fork and frame manufacturers.
Riding a Fox 40 and want to go from 203 to 223 mm at the front? You need the Galfer post-mount adapter +20 mm for Fox 40.
Center Lock or 6-bolt?
For 6-bolt hubs, the Galfer Shark 6-bolt is available. The two-piece Galfer Shark EVO Center Lock offers even more cooling and an aluminium core.
What's in the box
1 brake disc, without lockring. Reuse the lockring from your current disc. For front and rear, order 2 discs.
Matching pads
A new disc is best paired with new pads so both bed in cleanly together. Pads for your brake: Shimano · SRAM & Avid · Magura · Hope & Trickstuff · Formula · Hayes · TRP

Installation
- Center Lock discs are attached to the hub with a lockring. The lockring is not included—you can usually reuse the ring from your previous disc. Tighten it with the appropriate tool and the torque specified by your hub or brake manufacturer.
- Keep the disc and pads free of grease; Galfer Brake Cleaner is suitable for cleaning.
- Bedding in new discs: On a flat, safe section of path, brake several times from medium speed down to walking pace, using each brake individually.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the disc fit my brake?
Generally, yes. The decisive factors are the Center Lock mount on the hub and the correct adapter for the diameter. Discs 180 mm and larger are 2.0 mm thick—please check if your brake caliper accommodates this.
When do I need to change the disc?
If it falls below the minimum thickness specified by the disc or brake manufacturer, is warped, or has deep grooves. Measure the thickness with a micrometer at several points in the middle of the braking surface.
Do I need new pads for a new disc?
It is recommended, especially if the old pads are heavily worn or glazed. New discs and new pads break in best together. You can find suitable pads in our brake pad buying guide.
We supply Galfer brake discs from our Swiss warehouse. Unsure which size or mount fits? Send us the details of your fork, frame, and brakes—we will tell you what fits.
