WPS: Suspension Tuning from England

WPS is a British brand for suspension tuning and suspension parts, founded in 2022 by James Williams, the owner of J-Tech Suspension in Shropshire. WPS is known for its Podium Piston Kits for FOX and RockShox suspension components as well as for lightweight SiCr steel springs.

J-Tech has been tuning suspension and manufacturing its own parts since 1998. WPS products are born from this workshop experience: they are developed, tested, and tuned for different riders and areas of use.

The focus is not on the largest possible product range, but on targeted improvements for existing forks and shocks: tuning kits, springs, adapters, tools, and spare parts that solve specific technical problems or create additional tuning possibilities. WPS Podium Piston Kits: which kit fits your suspension?

The Podium Kits change the internal damping tune. Which kit fits depends on the manufacturer, model, and damping generation:

RockShox Charger 3, 3.1 and 3.2 RC2

For Pike, Lyrik, and ZEB with Charger 3 cartridge: piston for the base valve, complete shim set, and stiffer IFP spring. For RockShox forks, WPS tuning is only possible from Charger 3 onwards.

RockShox Super Deluxe and Vivid

Kits for Super Deluxe Air and Coil (2017–2022 and 2023 onwards) as well as for Vivid Air and Vivid Coil (C1). This is supplemented by parts such as Precision LSC Adjusters, HBO Bolts, and hub spacers.

FOX GRIP2 and GRIP X2

For FOX 34, 36, 38, and 40 with GRIP2 or GRIP X2 damping. With the GRIP X2, a stiffer IFP spring and new shim stacks ensure more stable pressure balance.

FOX Float X2 and DH X2

For Float X2 and DH X2 from 2021 onwards in Factory and Performance versions. For models from 2026, there is a dedicated tuning kit with a larger high-speed adjustment range.

How a WPS Podium Piston Kit works

In every shock, oil flows through the channels of a piston, and thin steel discs (shims) open depending on the pressure. The Podium pistons are CNC-machined from aluminium, hard-anodized, and designed for higher flow. Together with a wide assortment of shims, this creates more room to tune compression and rebound to the rider's weight, riding style, bike, and terrain.

Optimised oil flow

Piston and shim stack are selected to match the specific suspension. Higher flow allows for more support without the damping "choking" on hard hits.

Individual tune

The tuning is not chosen as a blanket setting, but based on rider weight, bike, riding style, and terrain – from the tunes provided by WPS for each kit.

Installation at the Fitting Centre

Podium Piston Kits are professionally installed and tuned and are not shipped as loose tuning parts. Installation takes place in our workshop in Dällikon.

WPS SiCr springs: light and precise

The WPS SiCr spring is manufactured in Great Britain from silicon-chromium steel. It combines low weight with a constant spring rate and, according to WPS, has a tolerance of only ±2% in spring rate. The ends are precision-ground, and the coating is semi-gloss black.

• For 65 mm maximum stroke: 350–800 lb/in, also for shocks with 47.5–55 mm stroke
• For 75 mm maximum stroke: 275–650 lb/in
• Spring rates in 25 lb/in increments, in the upper range in 50 lb/in increments
• A 28 mm extension is included; maximum preload is two turns

The WPS SiCr springhas an inner diameter of 38 mm. Depending on the shock, you may need an adapter: FOX and Marzocchi 38 to 35 mm, Öhlins, Cane Creek, DVO, and X-Fusion 38 to 36 mm, RockShox, EXT, and MRP a 38 mm spacer. We also stock the matching Performance Spring Adaptersand Spring Extenders.

WPS parts for service and fine-tuning

Precision LSC Adjuster Kit

For RockShox Super Deluxe (B1+) and Vivid (C1+): 8 instead of 4 low-speed clicks thanks to a new detent plate and firmer detent springs – for finer adjustment increments.

HBO Bolt and Hub Spacer

For the Super Deluxe Coil from 2023 onwards, the HBO bolt must also match when changing stroke. WPS manufactures it from stainless steel, accompanied by hub spacers of 2.5, 5, and 7.5 mm.

Performance Seal Kits

Seal kits for shock service: RockShox Super Deluxe and Deluxe, FOX Float X2 and DH X2, Marzocchi Bomber CR, and Cane Creek Kitsuma – assembled in Great Britain.

FL01 Lower Leg Lube

The WPS lubricant for fork lower legs: low friction, good surface adhesion, and good flow properties. Available from 50 to 500 ml.

Tools and adapters

Charger 3 IFP Height & Clamp Tool, Res Cap Tool for the Marzocchi Bomber CR, IFP Shaft for FOX GRIP2 VVC, and trunnion adapters for Trek bikes.

How WPS tuning works at MTB-Raceshop

1. Order kit

Select the suitable Podium Kit in the shop. For many kits, you can add a service as an option right away.

2. Submit details

After your order, you will receive an email with a form regarding your bike, rider weight, and terrain – the basis for your tune.

3. Send in suspension

Send your fork or shock to MTB-Raceshop or drop it off in Dällikon by appointment.

4. Installation and return shipping

We install the kit, tune it, and send your suspension back with a suitable base setting.

Frequently asked questions about WPS

Can I install a WPS Podium Piston Kit myself?

No. WPS Podium Piston Kits are offered through Fitting Centres, where they are professionally installed and tuned. At MTB-Raceshop, we install every kit in our workshop and select the tune to suit you.

From which RockShox fork is WPS tuning possible?

We offer WPS tuning for RockShox forks starting from the Charger 3 damping system – i.e., for Charger 3, 3.1, and 3.2 RC2 as installed in Pike, Lyrik, and ZEB from the 2023 model year. We do not tune forks with Charger 2 or 2.1 with WPS. For RockShox shocks, there are WPS kits for Super Deluxe and Vivid.

Which WPS kit fits my suspension?

The compatibility of a WPS kit depends on the manufacturer, model, and model year of the fork or shock. If you are unsure, you can send us a photo or the exact part number before ordering.

Do I need to have a service done at the same time as the WPS tuning?

Whether a service is necessary alongside the WPS kit depends on the age, condition, and previous usage of the suspension. For a new or recently serviced suspension, a full service is not always necessary. For many kits, you can add the service as an option.

Yes. The WPS tune is selected based on rider weight, bike, riding style, and terrain. You provide the necessary information in our form after ordering.

What spring rate do I need for a WPS SiCr spring?

The spring rate depends on rider weight with gear, stroke, rear-end leverage ratio, and desired sag. With our Spring Calculator, you can find a recommendation. The WPS SiCr spring is available from 275 to 800 lb/in.
