Galfer Wave Fixed brake disc Center Lock, 1.8 mm

The Galfer Wave Fixed Center Lock brake disc is the one-piece Wave disc for Center Lock hubs: laser-cut from high-carbon stainless steel, 1.8 mm thick, and available in 160, 180, and 203 mm.

Which size do I need?

Galfer categorises the sizes as follows:

• 160 mm: XC
• 180 mm: XC and Enduro
• 203 mm: Enduro and Downhill

Whether and which adapter is required depends on the brake mount on your fork or frame and the disc size it was designed for without an adapter. Galfer offers post-mount adapters for +20 mm, +23 mm, +43 mm, and +63 mm. The maximum disc size is specified by the fork and frame manufacturers.

Center Lock, 6-bolt, or 2.0 mm?

The same disc is available for 6-bolt hubs as the Galfer Wave Fixed 6-bolt, 1.8 mm. For e-MTBs and heavier riders, the Center Lock disc is available in 2.0 mm: Galfer Wave Fixed Center Lock, 2.0 mm.

Speed sensor magnet for e-bikes

Installation

• Center Lock discs are attached to the hub with a lockring. The lockring is not included – you generally continue to use the ring from your previous disc. Tighten it using the appropriate tool and the torque specified by your hub or brake manufacturer.
• Keep the disc and pads free of grease; Galfer Brake Cleaner is suitable for cleaning.
• Bedding in new discs: on a flat, safe stretch of road, brake multiple times from moderate speed down to walking pace, using each brake individually.

Frequently asked questions

Does the disc fit my brake?

Generally, yes. The deciding factors are the correct hub mount and the right adapter for the diameter. If your brake came factory-equipped with 2.0 mm thick discs, use the 2.0 mm version.

When do I need to change the disc?

When it falls below the minimum thickness specified by the disc or brake manufacturer, is warped, or has deep scoring. Measure the thickness at several points in the middle of the braking surface using a micrometer.

Do I need new pads for the new disc?

Recommended, especially if the old pads are heavily worn or glazed. New discs and new pads bed in best together. You can find suitable pads in our brake pad buying guide.
