Description
Description
The Galfer Pro brake pad FD452G1554T fits the 2-piston brake calipers from Shimano XTR, XT, SLX, and Deore, as well as several Shimano road and trekking calipers. The green Pro compound G1554T is Galfer's racing compound: highest braking power, very resistant to heat, and, according to Galfer, ready for use without a bed-in period.
Compatibility
According to Galfer, the pad shape FD452 is compatible with these brakes:
- Shimano XTR: BR-M985, BR-M987, BR-M988, BR-M9000 and BR-M9020
- Shimano XT: BR-M785, BR-M8000 and BR-M8100
- Shimano SLX: BR-M666, BR-M675, BR-M7000 and BR-M7100
- Shimano Deore: BR-M615, BR-M6000 and BR-M6100
- Shimano Road and Trekking: BR-CX75, BR-R315, BR-R515, BR-R785, BR-RS785 and Alfine BR-S700
Please check your brake caliper model and production year before purchasing, or compare your old pad with the image and dimensions on this page. For 4-piston calipers such as the XT BR-M8120, you need pad shape FD426: Galfer Pro for Shimano 4-piston. The flat-mount calipers XT BR-M8110 and SLX BR-M7110 use shape FD496: Galfer Pro for Shimano Road & XC.
Galfer Pro G1554T: the racing compound
Galfer gives the Pro compound the highest rating for braking power and fade resistance, and a good rating for wet and muddy conditions. Galfer rates the durability lower than its other compounds: Pro wears out faster and is intended for racing, bike parks, and long, steep descents.
- Organic-semi-metallic, asbestos-free friction compound
- Ready for use without bed-in time, according to Galfer
- Progressive modulation and high temperature resistance
- Green backing plate
- Dimensions according to Galfer: 32.3 × 30.0 mm
Which Galfer compound is right for you?
We stock the FD452 pad shape in four Galfer compounds. We have found the Galfer Pro to work well on the front, and Galfer E-Bike on the rear.
- Performance (black): the durable all-rounder for trail and enduro
- Advanced (red): plenty of reserve in wet and muddy conditions, very long service life
- E-Bike (purple): semi-metallic and ECE R90 certified, for e-MTBs and heavier riders
You can find more on the differences in our Brake Pad Buying Guide.
What's in the box
1 pair of pads for one caliper. For front and rear, order 2.
Disc due as well?
New pads only brake properly on a disc in good condition. Measure the disc when you change the pads: if it is below the minimum thickness, warped or deeply scored, it's best to replace it together with the pads. Matching Galfer discs:
- Shark: 6-bolt · Center Lock, one-piece, for enduro, downhill and e-MTB
- Shark EVO: 6-bolt · Center Lock, two-piece with aluminium carrier for even better cooling
- Wave Fixed 2.0 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, for e-MTBs, enduro and heavier riders
- Wave Fixed 1.8 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, the classic Wave in 1.8 mm, 160 to 203 mm
Compare all discs: Galfer brake discs. With 2.0 mm discs, check that your caliper has room for them.
Installation and Replacement
- Always replace all pads in a brake caliper at the same time.
- Push the pistons straight back before inserting the pads, preferably with a plastic lever – never use a screwdriver directly on the piston.
- Keep the disc and pads free of grease; Galfer Brake Cleaner is suitable for cleaning.
- Shimano specifies a pad thickness of 0.5 mm as the wear limit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do these pads fit my Shimano XT BR-M8100?
Yes, the 2-piston XT BR-M8100 and BR-M8000 use the FD452 pad shape. The 4-piston XT BR-M8120 requires the FD426, and the flat-mount XT BR-M8110 requires the FD496 shape.
Do these pads fit Shimano brakes on a road bike?
Yes, for the BR-R315, BR-R515, BR-R785, BR-RS785, and BR-CX75 calipers. Flat-mount calipers like the Ultegra BR-R8070 or 105 BR-R7070 require the FD496 shape.
Do I need to bed in Galfer Pro pads?
According to Galfer, the Pro compound is ready for use with no bed-in time. However, perform a few braking manoeuvres on a flat, safe section before your first descent to get a feel for the brakes.
How long do Galfer Pro pads last?
This depends on the terrain, weather, and riding style. Pro wears out faster than other Galfer compounds. If service life is more important to you, choose Galfer Advanced, Galfer E-Bike, or Galfer Performance in the same shape.
We ship Galfer brake pads from our Swiss warehouse. Unsure if the pad fits? Send us a photo of the brake caliper – we will let you know which pad is correct.
