Galfer E-Bike brake pads for SRAM Code, Guide RE, DB8, G2 RE and Motive

The Galfer E-Bike Brake Pad FD455G1652 fits 4-piston SRAM Code, Guide RE, G2 RE, DB8, and Motive brakes, as well as Avid Code brakes from the 2011 to 2016 model years. The purple E-Bike compound G1652 is semi-metallic and ECE R90 certified. It is designed for the weight and speed of E-MTBs, is highly heat-resistant and durable, and is also suitable for heavy riders and gravity bikes without motors.

Compatibility

According to Galfer, the pad shape FD455 fits the following brakes:

• Avid: Code (model years 2011 to 2016)
• SRAM: Code R, Code RSC, Guide RE, G2 RE, DB8, and Motive
• Intend: Trinity

Before purchasing, check the model and year of your brake caliper or compare your old pad with the image and dimensions on this page. For SRAM Guide R, RS, RSC, and Ultimate, as well as G2 without "RE", the shape FD459 is required (Galfer E-Bike for SRAM Guide and G2); for SRAM Maven, the shape FD575 is required (Galfer E-Bike for SRAM Maven).

Galfer E-Bike G1652: for E-MTBs and heavy bikes

Galfer gives the E-Bike compound top marks for performance in wet and muddy conditions as well as for durability. ECE R90 is a testing standard for replacement brake pads for motor vehicles.

Which Galfer compound is the right one?

We offer the pad shape FD455 in four Galfer compounds. We have found that Galfer Pro works well in the front, and Galfer E-Bike in the rear.

• Performance (black): the durable all-rounder for trail and enduro
• Advanced (red): plenty of reserve in wet and muddy conditions, very long durability
• Pro (green): the racing compound with the highest braking power, wears out faster

Disc due as well?

New pads only brake properly on a disc in good condition. Measure the disc when you change the pads: if it is below the minimum thickness, warped or deeply scored, it's best to replace it together with the pads. Matching Galfer discs:

• Shark: 6-bolt · Center Lock, one-piece, for enduro, downhill and e-MTB
• Shark EVO: 6-bolt · Center Lock, two-piece with aluminium carrier for even better cooling
• Wave Fixed 2.0 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, for e-MTBs, enduro and heavier riders
• Wave Fixed 1.8 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, the classic Wave in 1.8 mm, 160 to 203 mm

Compare all discs: Galfer brake discs. With 2.0 mm discs, check that your caliper has room for them.

Installation and replacement

• Always replace all pads in a brake caliper at the same time.
• Push the pistons straight back before inserting, ideally with a plastic lever – never use a screwdriver directly on the piston.
• Keep the disc and pads free of grease; Galfer Brake Cleaner is suitable for cleaning.
• SRAM specifies 3 mm for the pad and backing plate combined as the wear limit.

Frequently asked questions

Does the pad fit my SRAM Guide?

For the Guide RE and G2 RE, yes. Guide R, RS, RSC, and Ultimate, as well as the G2, require the smaller FD459 shape.

Does the pad fit the SRAM Maven?

No, the Maven has its own larger pad shape: FD575.

How do I bed in new pads?

On a flat, safe stretch: brake several times from moderate speed down to walking pace, using each brake individually.

Can I use E-bike pads on a bike without a motor?

Yes. The compound is designed for high loads and is also suitable for heavy riders and gravity bikes without motors. For us, the Galfer E-Bike has proven effective in the rear.
