Galfer Advanced brake pads for SRAM Guide, G2, Avid Trail and Trickstuff C42

The Galfer Advanced brake pad FD459G1851 fits the 4-piston SRAM Guide and G2 brakes, Avid X0, 7 and 9 Trail and SRAM Level Stealth 4 Piston, as well as the Trickstuff C42 and the Direttissima and Piccola HD from model year 2022 onwards. The red Advanced G1851 compound is designed for changing conditions: direct response, progressive braking power, plenty of reserves in wet and muddy conditions, and very long service life.

Compatibility

According to Galfer, the pad shape FD459 is compatible with these brakes:

• Avid: X0 Trail, 7 Trail and 9 Trail
• SRAM: Guide R, RS, RSC and Ultimate, G2 and Level Stealth 4 Piston
• Trickstuff: C42 as well as Direttissima and Piccola HD from model year 2022

Before purchasing, check the model and model year of your brake caliper or compare your old pad with the image and dimensions on this page. Not suitable for SRAM Code and Guide RE (shape FD455: Galfer Advanced for SRAM Code and Guide RE) and SRAM Maven (shape FD575: Galfer Advanced for SRAM Maven). For Trickstuff Direttissima and Piccola HD up to model year 2021, the shape FD247 fits (Galfer Performance for Trickstuff Direttissima up to 2021, C41 and Hope Mono M4).

Galfer Advanced G1851: for wet and mud

Galfer gives the Advanced compound the top rating for performance in wet and muddy conditions and for durability. In terms of braking power and fading resistance, it is on par with Performance and just below Pro.

Which Galfer compound is right?

The pad shape FD459 is available from us in four Galfer compounds. We have found Galfer Pro to be effective for the front and Galfer E-Bike for the rear.

• Performance (black): the durable all-rounder for Trail and Enduro
• Pro (green): the racing compound with the highest braking power, wears out faster
• E-Bike (purple): semimetallic and tested according to ECE R90, for E-MTBs and heavy riders

Disc due as well?

New pads only brake properly on a disc in good condition. Measure the disc when you change the pads: if it is below the minimum thickness, warped or deeply scored, it's best to replace it together with the pads. Matching Galfer discs:

• Shark: 6-bolt · Center Lock, one-piece, for enduro, downhill and e-MTB
• Shark EVO: 6-bolt · Center Lock, two-piece with aluminium carrier for even better cooling
• Wave Fixed 2.0 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, for e-MTBs, enduro and heavier riders
• Wave Fixed 1.8 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, the classic Wave in 1.8 mm, 160 to 203 mm

Compare all discs: Galfer brake discs. With 2.0 mm discs, check that your caliper has room for them.

Installation and replacement

• Always change all pads of a brake caliper at the same time.
• Push the pistons straight back before inserting, preferably with a plastic lever – never use a screwdriver directly on the piston.
• Keep the disc and pads free of grease; Galfer Brake Cleaner is suitable for cleaning.
• SRAM states 3 mm for the pad and backing plate together as the wear limit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the pad fit my Trickstuff Direttissima?

Yes, for the Direttissima from model year 2022, as well as the C42 and the Piccola HD from 2022. For older Direttissima and Piccola HD up to model year 2021, Galfer specifies the shape FD247.

Does the pad fit the SRAM Guide RE?

No, the Guide RE uses the larger FD455 pad shape.

How do I bed in new pads?

On a flat, safe section: brake several times from medium speed to walking pace, using each brake individually.

What is Galfer Advanced suitable for?

For those who often ride in wet and muddy conditions and want long service life. For races with maximum braking power, Galfer Pro is intended.
