Description
Description
The Galfer Advanced brake pad FD426G1851 fits the 4-piston calipers from Shimano Saint, Zee, XTR, XT, SLX, and Deore, as well as selected brakes from TRP and Tektro. The red Advanced G1851 compound is made for changing conditions: direct response, progressive braking power, high reserves in wet and muddy conditions, and very long durability.
Compatibility
According to Galfer, the pad shape FD426 fits the following brakes:
- Shimano: Saint BR-M810 and BR-M820, Zee BR-M640, XTR BR-M9120 and BR-M9220, XT BR-M8020 and BR-M8120, SLX BR-M7120, Deore BR-M6120 as well as BR-M8220, BR-MT420, and BR-MT520 (also in sets with the BL-MT501 lever)
- TRP: Quadiem, Quadiem SL, Slate T4, and DH-R EVO
- Tektro: HD-E725, HD-M735, HD-M745, and HD-M750
Before purchasing, please check the model and year of your brake caliper or compare your old pad with the image and dimensions on this page. For Shimano 2-piston calipers such as the XT BR-M8100 or Deore BR-M6100, you need pad shape FD452: Galfer Advanced for Shimano 2-piston.
Galfer Advanced G1851: for wet and mud
Galfer gives the Advanced compound top marks for performance in wet and mud as well as for durability. In terms of braking power and fade resistance, it is on par with the Performance compound and just below the Pro.
- Organic-semi-metallic, asbestos-free friction compound
- For trail, enduro, and downhill in all weather conditions
- Red backing plate
- Dimensions according to Galfer: 39.5 × 24.2 mm
Which Galfer compound fits?
We offer the FD426 pad shape in four Galfer compounds. We have found the Galfer Pro to be excellent for the front and the Galfer E-Bike for the rear.
- Performance (black): the durable all-rounder for trail and enduro
- Pro (green): the racing compound with the highest braking power; wears out faster
- E-Bike (purple): semi-metallic and ECE R90 certified, for E-MTBs and heavier riders
You can find more about the differences in our brake pad buying guide.
What's in the box
1 pair of pads for one caliper. For front and rear, order 2.
Disc due as well?
New pads only brake properly on a disc in good condition. Measure the disc when you change the pads: if it is below the minimum thickness, warped or deeply scored, it's best to replace it together with the pads. Matching Galfer discs:
- Shark: 6-bolt · Center Lock, one-piece, for enduro, downhill and e-MTB
- Shark EVO: 6-bolt · Center Lock, two-piece with aluminium carrier for even better cooling
- Wave Fixed 2.0 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, for e-MTBs, enduro and heavier riders
- Wave Fixed 1.8 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, the classic Wave in 1.8 mm, 160 to 203 mm
Compare all discs: Galfer brake discs. With 2.0 mm discs, check that your caliper has room for them.
Installation and replacement
- Always replace all pads in a brake caliper at the same time.
- Push the pistons back straight before inserting, preferably with a plastic lever – never use a screwdriver directly on the piston.
- Keep the disc and pads free of grease; Galfer Brake Cleaner is suitable for cleaning.
- Shimano specifies 0.5 mm of pad thickness as the wear limit.
Frequently asked questions
Does the pad fit my Shimano XT?
Yes, for the 4-piston XT BR-M8020 and BR-M8120. The 2-piston XT BR-M8100 requires pad shape FD452, and the flat-mount XT BR-M8110 requires shape FD496. When in doubt, count the pistons on the brake caliper.
Does the pad fit TRP and Tektro?
Yes, for TRP Quadiem, Quadiem SL, Slate T4, and DH-R EVO, as well as for Tektro HD-E725, HD-M735, HD-M745, and HD-M750.
How do I bed in new pads?
On a flat, safe section: brake several times from medium speed down to walking pace, testing each brake individually. Shimano recommends at least 20 cycles per brake.
What is Galfer Advanced suitable for?
For those who frequently ride in wet and muddy conditions and want long service life. For racing with maximum braking power, we recommend Galfer Pro.
