Galfer Performance brake pads for SRAM Guide, G2, Avid Trail and Trickstuff C42

The Galfer Performance Brake Pad FD459G1053 fits the 4-piston SRAM Guide and G2, Avid X0, 7 and 9 Trail, and SRAM Level Stealth 4 Piston brakes, as well as the Trickstuff C42 and the Direttissima and Piccola HD from model year 2022 onwards. The black Performance compound G1053 is Galfer's all-rounder for XC, Trail, and Enduro: plenty of braking power, fade-resistant, and very durable, even in mud.

According to Galfer, the pad shape FD459 fits these brakes:

• Avid: X0 Trail, 7 Trail, and 9 Trail
• SRAM: Guide R, RS, RSC, and Ultimate, G2, and Level Stealth 4 Piston
• Trickstuff: C42 as well as Direttissima and Piccola HD from model year 2022

Please check the model and year of your brake caliper before purchasing, or compare your old pad with the image and dimensions on this page. Not suitable for SRAM Code and Guide RE (shape FD455: Galfer Performance for SRAM Code and Guide RE) and SRAM Maven (shape FD575: Galfer Performance for SRAM Maven). For Trickstuff Direttissima and Piccola HD up to model year 2021, the shape FD247 fits (Galfer Performance for Trickstuff Direttissima up to 2021, C41 and Hope Mono M4).

Galfer Performance G1053: the all-rounder

Galfer gives the Performance compound its top rating for durability and rates its braking power, fade resistance, and performance in wet and muddy conditions as good. This compound was formerly known as Standard.

Which Galfer compound is right for you?

We stock the pad shape FD459 in four Galfer compounds. We have found the Galfer Pro works well on the front, and the Galfer E-Bike on the rear.

• Advanced (red): high reserves in wet and muddy conditions, very long durability
• Pro (green): the race compound with the highest braking power, wears faster
• E-Bike (purple): semi-metallic and ECE R90 certified, for E-MTBs and heavier riders

Disc due as well?

New pads only brake properly on a disc in good condition. Measure the disc when you change the pads: if it is below the minimum thickness, warped or deeply scored, it's best to replace it together with the pads. Matching Galfer discs:

• Shark: 6-bolt · Center Lock, one-piece, for enduro, downhill and e-MTB
• Shark EVO: 6-bolt · Center Lock, two-piece with aluminium carrier for even better cooling
• Wave Fixed 2.0 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, for e-MTBs, enduro and heavier riders
• Wave Fixed 1.8 mm: 6-bolt · Center Lock, the classic Wave in 1.8 mm, 160 to 203 mm

Compare all discs: Galfer brake discs. With 2.0 mm discs, check that your caliper has room for them.

Installation and replacement

• Always replace all pads in a brake caliper at the same time.
• Push the pistons straight back before inserting, ideally with a plastic lever – never use a screwdriver directly on the piston.
• Keep the disc and pads free of grease; Galfer Brake Cleaner is suitable for cleaning.
• SRAM specifies 3 mm for the pad and backplate combined as the wear limit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the pad fit my Trickstuff Direttissima?

For the Direttissima from model year 2022 onwards, yes, as well as the C42 and Piccola HD from 2022. For older Direttissima and Piccola HD models up to 2021, Galfer specifies the shape FD247.

Does the pad fit the SRAM Guide RE?

No, the Guide RE uses the larger FD455 pad shape.

How do I bed in new pads?

On a flat, safe section: brake several times from medium speed down to walking pace, using each brake individually.

What is Galfer Performance suitable for?

For almost everything from XC to Trail and Enduro. If you often ride in the wet, look at Galfer Advanced. For E-MTBs, Galfer E-Bike is a better fit.
