Travel change for RockShox Super Deluxe Coil and Vivid

With our Travel Change service, we modify your RockShox Super Deluxe Coil, Vivid Coil, or Vivid Air to a new stroke. We install a WPS HBO piston of the appropriate length to ensure the hydraulic bottom-out continues to function correctly with the new stroke. The conversion is carried out personally by Dave Rüst in our workshop in Dällikon – a suspension specialist and active downhill rider himself.

What changes – and what doesn't

The eye-to-eye length of your shock remains the same. It is determined by your frame, so a 210 mm shock will not become a 250 mm shock. Only the stroke is changed – within the range possible for your eye-to-eye length:

• 210 mm (Trunnion 185 mm): 47.5, 50, 52.5 or 55 mm stroke
• 230 mm (Trunnion 205 mm): 57.5, 60, 62.5 or 65 mm stroke
• 250 mm (Trunnion 225 mm): 67.5, 70, 72.5 or 75 mm stroke

Example: A 230x57.5 mm becomes a 230x65 mm – or vice versa.

Why a stroke spacer alone is not enough

The Super Deluxe Coil and Vivid feature a hydraulic bottom-out (HBO) that controls the end-stroke progression. If you change the stroke using only a spacer, the length of the HBO piston will no longer be correct, compromising function, damping, and end-stroke progression. That is why a correctly sized HBO piston is a mandatory part of any stroke conversion.

Please check if your frame can handle the new stroke—verifying manufacturer clearance and space for tyres and seat tube—before booking. For the Super Deluxe Coil from model year 2023 onwards, the WPS HBO Bolt and the WPS stroke spacer are also available individually for self-installation.

Options

• Eye-to-eye length (remains the same): The length of your shock from eye to eye – for Trunnion shocks, the figure in parentheses. You can find this on the shock or in your bike's specifications, e.g., "230x60" or "205x60 Trunnion".
• New stroke: The stroke you want to ride in the future. Only the strokes possible with your eye-to-eye length are displayed.
• Include service: Select "Yes" and we will perform a full service during the conversion. If your shock is new or freshly serviced, the conversion alone is sufficient. With "+ shipping label," you will also receive a prepaid Swiss Post label as a PDF via email – simply print it out, attach it to your package, and drop it off at the post office.

How the conversion works at MTB-Raceshop

1. Book the conversion. Select your eye-to-eye length, new stroke, service, and shipping label as options, and choose your preferred date for shipping.
2. Send us your shock well packed so that it reaches us by the working day before your drop-off date at the latest – with the shipping label if you booked it – or bring it to Dällikon by arrangement.
3. We will convert your shock to the new stroke, including a service if requested.
4. After 48 h workshop time from your drop-off date, it goes back to you – return shipping is included in the price.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the eye-to-eye length, e.g., from 210 to 230 mm?

No. The eye-to-eye length remains the same as it is determined by your frame. The Travel Change only modifies the stroke within your existing eye-to-eye length.

Does this change the rear wheel travel?

Yes. More shock stroke provides more rear wheel travel, while less stroke provides less. How much it changes depends on your bike's kinematics.

Can I change the stroke myself?

For the Super Deluxe Coil (2023 and later), you can install the WPS HBO Bolt and the appropriate stroke spacer yourself. If you would prefer to have it done in the workshop or if a service is due, you should book the Travel Change.

How long does the conversion take?

48 h workshop time from your drop-off date – then your shock goes straight back to you. It must reach us by the working day before at the latest.
