Description
Description
The WPS SiCr spring is a lightweight steel spring for coil shocks. WPS makes it in Great Britain from silicon-chrome steel – with fine spring rate steps and a tight tolerance for precisely set-up suspension.
Features
- Spring rates in 25 lb/in steps
- Spring rate tolerance ±2%
- Precision-ground spring ends
- Light yet reliable
- Semi-gloss black coating
- Inner diameter 38 mm
Stroke and spring rates
- 47.5–65 mm: springs for a maximum stroke of 65 mm, 350 to 800 lb/in. As they are much shorter than standard springs, they also fit shocks with 47.5 to 55 mm stroke.
- 65–75 mm: springs for a maximum stroke of 75 mm, 275 to 650 lb/in.
What else you need
The SiCr spring has a 38 mm inner diameter. Depending on your shock, WPS specifies adapters or a spacer from the WPS Performance spring adapters:
| Your shock | You need |
|---|---|
| FOX, Marzocchi | 2× adapter 38/35 mm |
| Öhlins, Cane Creek, DVO, X-Fusion | 2× adapter 38/36 mm |
| RockShox, EXT, MRP | 1× spacer 38 mm (recommended) |
Without the right adapter the spring has too much play and can damage the spring or the shock. The spacer isn't essential, but it lets the spring rotate with little friction – it works more consistently and responds more sensitively.
28 mm extender included
The SiCr spring is shorter than many standard springs. To give you enough preload range, a light 28 mm extender is included. Maximum preload is two turns.
Stroke spacer or bearing in the shock eye? Then the standard extender won't fit over it. Instead you need the three-piece 28 mm split extender, for example on a RockShox Super Deluxe Coil with a stroke spacer. A 38 mm spacer comes with the split extender.
Which spring rate do you need?
The right rate depends on rider weight, rear suspension, stroke and the sag you want. Work it out with our spring rate calculator or ask us.
FAQ
Does the WPS SiCr spring fit every shock?
Most coil shocks, as long as stroke and spring rate match. With the right WPS adapter or spacer, the spring sits properly on FOX, Marzocchi, RockShox, Öhlins, Cane Creek, DVO and other shocks.
Why two adapters?
The spring sits on a seat at the top and at the bottom. On FOX, Marzocchi, Öhlins, Cane Creek, DVO and X-Fusion the spring seat is smaller than 38 mm, so each end of the spring needs an adapter. Adapter prices are per piece.
Why is the spring so short?
Silicon-chrome steel allows a shorter, lighter spring at the same rate. The included 28 mm extender makes up the length so you have enough preload range.
